For years I’ve been saying that what the Glasgow music scene needs is some metal to shake things up. The Dodgettes, a local four piece from around the city, are what the world needs right now – a kick in the teeth.
Their debut single ‘Fresh Mint’ is a venomous slice of Nu-metal that grips the listeners ears in just the right way. You can tell from the way the drums fade in the opening seconds, which builds up to the lead guitar, that these guys are onto something special. Lead vocalist Iona Howe sets the playful tone of the track with her gentle cadence.
Each of the band members play a big role in making ‘Fresh Mint’ what is it. Whether it’s Billy Thomas’ heavier than hell guitar tone, Avery Harkins’ rushing bass lines, or Christopher Rushworth’s proficient drumming, all it takes is one listen to discover why The Dodgettes are an act you need to be listening to.
The Dodgettes are fiercely independent and donate all their ticket sales to charity, demonstrating that good music isn’t made in a corporate studio, it’s cut in the grass root venues and stitched together with love.
If Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit is your thing, then give The Dodgettes a try – they deserve your time.
