Indie rockers The Neutral Joy slither back into the Aberdeen music scene with new single ‘Snakes‘.
After taking a break for 2025 Aberdeen’s The Neutral Joy have stormed into 2026 with the release of their third single the dynamic and emotionally charged anthem ‘Snakes’. After the somewhat lengthy absence, Snakes feels like a fresh start for the band but the track was actually written back in 2023 in reaction to the “growing sense of chaos and constant deception depicted by mass media outlets around the world” which is no less relevant today than it was back in 2023. They are a band that love to write loud and compelling indie anthems and don’t shy away from going against the grain.
New single ‘Snakes’ builds from a angsty introspection into an explosive, cathartic release as the track goes on. Beginning with a clean atmospheric guitar melody, the rhythm section soon join in with a driving bassline that anchors the groove before the guitars kick into overdrive and punch into the powerful choruses. But the track is mostly defined by the compelling vocals of Kyle MacRitchie, who shifts effortlessly between a brooding melody in the verses to a passionate powerful delivery in the chorus and he is backed by intense harmonies which create an anthemic and defiant wall of sound.
2026 is a big year for The Neutral Joy as they look to carve their own space into the Scottish alternative music scene. After a recent show at the Tunnels in Aberdeen supporting Copper Lungs we can expect more live shows for the second half of 2026 and we have also been promised more releases before the end of the year. The Neutral Joy are back with a bang and we can’t wait to hear what else they have in store for us.
