Headlined by the electricifying Gerry Jablonski Band ,Dundee will come alive again with blues rock riffs in a 2026 Blues – Rock all dayer.
I grew up around the Dundee Blues scene. As a kid I have wonderful memories of Saturday afternoons in Deacon Brodies (Now Hidden) and then Dexters and Non- Zeros.
Every Summer the city was buzzing with blues rock blaring out of every pub in Dundee for the Blues Bonanza and when that unfortunately stopped Almost Blue stepped in and kept the music and the buzz alive.
The blues fans were their own community, a group of music lovers who would congregate in venues each Saturday afternoon, as if it was a religious practice. Friends were made, drinks were had and there was always dancing. It was the highlight of my week and that of many others also.
This dedicated group of music fans saw me dance around as a little tot, who then grew up to be the musician on the stage on Saturday afternoons – one thing never changed, the love and support everyone showed.
I know it isn’t just me who has felt the pinch of Dundee’s lack of Blues in the city, bands used to love playing here and with no support of the likes of Dundee Blues Bonanza or Almost Blues and especially when Dexters/Non Zeros closed, this Saturday ritual of blues on a Saturday afternoon was no more. The community has since been displaced. Some have found solitude in other bars on a Saturday afternoon where others just stopped going out.
When launching Bonnie Scotland Presents I knew I needed to bring blues back to Dundee. It’s part of who I am and who I wish to continue to be. I’d love to see the familiar faces again and see everyone out having a grand old time. So, last June I held a show and brought the electric Gerry Jablonski Band back to Dundee after a 3 year hiatus and boy did it feel good to hear the blues again!
The show went down a storm and 2026 will see a show bigger and louder as Bonnie Scotland Presents partners up with Simon Cruickshank to bring you a Blues Rock All dayer at Beat Generator Dundee.
