Here is some insight into my  vast music taste with some of my favourite single releases from 2024

2024 was a spectacular year for music; with artists delivering tracks that resonate deeply, become ear worms or have the ability to instantly uplift my mood. I have been so fortunate to have been introduced to some new bands and artists while spending a lot of time seeking out new music too.

Here are my favourite single releases from 2024 each deserving of being added to your ‘must listen’ list. Click the ‘Listen Here’ below each song to open up a link to the track on all major streaming platforms.

Ben Walker – “Busy Smiling”
“Busy Smiling” by Ben Walker is a feel-good anthem that bursts with energy and joy. Its catchy hooks and infectious chorus make it impossible to not sing along. This particular song seems to have been my anthem of the year.

Bird Cage Theatre – “Takes a While to Learn”
A beautifully reflective piece, “Takes a While to Learn” explores the intricacies of personal growth. Bird Cage Theatre pairs intricate instrumentation with heartfelt lyrics, making this a true standout.

Conflict Hope – “Won’t Disappear”
“Won’t Disappear” by Conflict Hope is a stirring anthem of resilience. With its powerful lyrics and electrifying production, the song speaks to the ability to endure and persevere, especially during time of grieving a loved one.

David B Archibald – “Edinburgh”
“Edinburgh” is an ode to a city full of character and history.  David B Archibald captures the essence of the Scottish capital with rich storytelling and atmospheric melodies that feel like a love letter to its cobbled streets and iconic skyline. Edinburgh Rugby Club have recently picked up this track and I couldn’t think of a better motivational track.

Face the Silence – “Another Day in Paradise”
Face the Silence weaves modern rock with introspective lyrics to create a powerful, unforgettable nostalgic experience. They may be new on the scene but they are coming out the gate hot.

Fences \\\\ – “Tiny Actions\Unexpected Results”
“Tiny Actions\Unexpected Results”  is the song that made me fall in love with the band when I saw them live in Paris supporting The Xcerts. It gave that early Biffy Clyro vibe with those huge sing-a-long choruses and clever arena worthy outro.

Katie Nicoll – “Jodi Said”
“Jodi Said”  highlights Katie Nicoll’s strenghth in song writing and gives her the opportunity to show off her incredible vocal range. Telling the story of a friend warning her about an older guy, she has fun with this pop anthem. We all need a ‘Jodi’ in our lives to speak sense when we don’t see it. This track has had a lot of attention from BBC Scotland and it’s well deserved.

Luke La Volpe – “Good for You”
Luke La Volpe delivers raw emotion and bluesy charm in “What’s Good for You”. I had waited a while for new music from Luke and this did not disappoint. The gritty vocals and evocative storytelling make this track an unforgettable listen. This song gave me 80’s vibes, a super catchy chorus and cool riff made this track a regular repeat.

Moonlight Zoo – “Don’t Be Afraid”
Moonlight Zoo offers an energetic and inspiring anthem with “Don’t Be Afraid”. This track’s vibrant sound encourages listeners to embrace their fears and take bold steps forward. Moonlight Zoo never fail to lighten the mood with their indie, pop anthems and this release was no different.

Nati – “Golden”
Nati’s “Golden” radiates positivity with soulful vocals and uplifting melodies, exploring the theme of friendship and life being short. It’s the kind of track that feels like sunshine on a cloudy day. Turn it up, unwind the windows and blast this feel good dopamine hit track.

Sonny Leto – “Love That Set Me Free”
Sonny Leto has been another of my favourite discoveries of 2024. Thankful for the algorithm for bringing his band to my attention as they are everything I love and more. I’ve spontaniously driven four hours twice last year to go and catch them in Glasgow as I absolutely get what they are about. If you like funk and disco then this soulful big band will make you want to groove.
