Are you a little bit country? Are you a little bit rock and roll? Then make way, there is a new band of cowboys in town. It’s STALLION Baby!

First off, I started this review off extremely cheesy but I promise you STALLION’s single is anything BUT that and well, if you didn’t get the Shrek 2 reference in the opening then that is just unfortunate.
Stallion are a brand new, four piece country-rock band from Glasgow and last week they released their debut single Whisky and You.
For anyone that thinks the Scots can’t do country, Stallion are coming out the gate hot to prove otherwise! Jay Hepburn (drums) and Ruairidh MacLean (bass) expertly drive the rhythm and feel from the back while Andrew Brodie (guitar) delivers the sweet licks and Ross White has that bold powerful vocal front and centre.
Drawing upon influences from Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Donovan Woods these West Coast cowboys have set a real tone for their band and set the bar high with Whisky and You. A song that is bound to get your head bobbing and get you wanting to move cowboy/cowgirl style.
Whisky and you tells the classic tale of cowboy meets cowgirl – exploring the adventures had along the way, from long drives, dancing and cool whisky bars. It’s ultimately the upbeat country rock number that inspires you to live in the moment and enjoy whatever may come.
The track opened with a catchy acoustic guitar riff while echoes of My life is whisky pans from left to right edging closer before verse one kicks in. You can hear the Scottish twang in Ross’s vocal. I found this quite encouraging as often bands find it far easier to put on American accents but staying authentic is important!
If you weren’t already hooked on this track within the intro and verse, the chorus erupts into what can only be described as an ear worm. It is infectious and you’ll be singing it long after the song ends – you may even find yourself humming the guitar riff (or maybe that’s just me).
Country music has been one of the fastest – growing genres in recent years. Traditionally, it told stories of sad cowboys and life struggles and while some of that hasn’t changed, it has become more modern and relatable to a younger generation. All music is an outlet to share truths and tell stories but country takes this to a different level. There is so much scope within the genre and I have a feeling Stallion are here to fill it.
This band may have just launched but these musicians are seasoned pros, regularly touring the world. It’s great to see them putting their creative efforts into something new and exciting. They still deliver the class, polished musicality I’ve always known them to have and I have no doubt that the music they are working on will hit live the same as the recordings, if not better…
‘Whisky and You’ is catchy, upbeat and fun! Ross, Jay, Andrew and Ruairidh have released a solid debut single and I look forward to what comes next.
YEEEEEHAWWWW!
