You better buckle up because Aberdeen rockers Mercedes are about to take you for a ride with their debut album ‘See What You Find.’

If you’re looking for the best Mercedes in Aberdeen you won’t find them in Arnold Clark, you’ll find them rocking out in the likes of the Lemon Tree or Drummonds. The 6 piece released their high octane debut album at the tail end of 2025 and it’s a record that is all killer and steers clear of any filler. So lets shift through the gears and leave the car puns in the rear view mirror and see what we can find from this outstanding debut album.
‘See What You Find‘ swaggers out the traps with ‘Paper Stitches‘, a Charlatans type track full of slick guitar riffs and powerful drumming that the Stone Roses would be proud of. After this opening track you might be thinking Mercedes are just another Stone Roses wannabe band but that notion is quickly put to bed with the second track and the bands debut single ‘Where I Was Born‘. A tribute to their home of Aberdeen where even Mark McGhee gets a shout out, this one has all the brilliance of the top alt-rock acts today, my personal favourite on the album.
It becomes apparent the more you move though this album that Mercedes refuse to be pinned down by one genre. The next two tracks, ‘Third Time Around‘, which has a more folk feel to it with its acoustic guitars and harmonica & ‘Situation Overdrive‘ which switches to a more bluesy rock vibe, there’s truly something for everyone in this album. There’s ‘Memory Lane‘ which is a bit more pop-rock with its sing-along chorus followed by the bands second single ‘We’re Gonna Make It Alright‘ and ‘I Can’t Get You‘, either of which would not look out of place on any record from The Who, this is a band with a huge amount of versatility.
As we get into the final few tracks ‘King of the Slums‘ & ‘Restless Feeling’ are a real shot of adrenaline either side of the epic ‘Battery In Red‘ which is another contender for my personal favourite. There’s so much going on in this track without feeling like too much, the musical arrangement is exceptional. Then we hit the final track, the ethereal 7 minutes long ‘Dream Doctor’. The perfect end to this album, the slow build that has you feeling like you’re floating on a crowd until a rock n roll ending brings you right back down to earth with a bang. All in all it’s a simply cracking debut record, a true display of masterful weaving of genres and influences.
