Single Review: Copper Lungs – Brushed In Gold

Did someone say song of the summer? Because Copper Lungs have a tune for you.

The pop-rock Dundonians sure know how to start off 2025 with their new single Brushed in Gold. Uplifting guitars, melodic synths and catchy vocals blend to create a groovy tune that’s destined to be the song of the summer. A contrast to their previous heavier music, Copper Lungs create a melodious sound for fans of pop or rock with this new single that serves to show just how resilient and versatile the band truly are.

I can just picture it now, Corona in hand, burgers on the BBQ, families and friends all gathered to enjoy the one day of sunshine a year us Scots get, this song playing in the background as we sing our wee Scottish hearts out. What more could you need?

Brushed in Gold explores the ebbs and flows of chasing your dreams. Inspired by the Lead vocalist and guitarist, Darren’s long journeys to cover gigs and the feeling of being torn between providing for his family and grinding to achieve his goals. Originally a song not destined for release, just not seeming to click back in 2023 when the band rekindled, but after revisiting, reworking and reviving, a banger was born.

The song starts with a punchy, catchy bass and drum line that carries the song throughout, creating an addicting beat that accompanies the striking guitar riffs and melody. Last but certainly not least, the vocals catch your attention with its emotional honesty and dynamic production, with that Scottish accent shining through, that I personally love to hear and that fans of Twin Atlantic and The XCERTS will appreciate right along side me.

The song only gets better and better with a belter of a guitar solo and ethereal backing harmonies that make this song the complete standout that it is. I for one can’t wait for the release of their album ‘Broken Beautiful’ scheduled for release on May 16th, followed by their tour where they’ll be playing these funky, rock tunes for your very ears all over the UK, starting on May 23rd in Aberdeen.

A increasingly growing fanbase, summer live shows and and an album that is sure to showcase their refreshing creativity and ever changing versatility, Copper Lungs are sure to blow us away and I cant wait to see what they do next.
