Alloa 7 piece Deltamanic are celebrating their latest single Ain’t Nothing But Soul and it’s all kinds of funk-soul goodness.

Ain’t Nothing But Soul has a feel that instantly transported me to Otis Redding’s iconic Dock of the Bay. It’s not about mimicry—it’s about the feel, the groove, and the soul. Deltamanic have layered this track with rich textures—bass lines, wah-wah guitar, keys, and glorious harmonies—and it all lands perfectly. This is a band that knows how to place every part with purpose.
The song kicks off with Jack’s standout bass line, Dean’s wah guitar licks, and Ali’s drums locking in a rhythm that demands you move. There’s so much going on sonically, but nothing ever feels cluttered. The balance is spot on, especially with the vocals—four parts, no one overpowered, just beautifully blended.
Lyrically, Ain’t Nothing But Soul touches on resilience, authenticity, and the power of staying true to yourself. It’s a timely reminder in an age where TikTok shop hauls and Z-list influencer noise can drown out real voices. This track cuts through all that.
Dean’s lead vocal has a familiar, nostalgic quality I still can’t place—but when I do, I’ll be sure to let him know. For now, let’s just say his delivery is soulful, assured, and backed by a band that clearly cares about the craft.
Are you standing strong on your own two feet., got your guard up rolling with the punches, you’re hard to defeat.
Deltamanic join the likes of Jutebox, Sonny Letto and Sovirez in carrying the torch for funk and soul in Scotland. There’s a serious fire in the bellies of these bands—a respect for the legends that came before, and a drive to inspire the next generation to pick up real instruments and explore the joy of making music.
Ain’t Nothing But Soul is everything I love about music. It’s why I made the decision to include reviews under the Bonnie Scotland Presents name—it’s too important not to shout about tracks like this.
Catch them live:
They’re on the Discovery Stage at Heartland Festival this weekend—Saturday at 4pm. Trust me, I’ll be there with bells on. They’re also playing Party at the Palace later this summer—don’t miss it.
