I don’t know if you’ve ever felt this from a song, it’s certainly something I actively seek, that ethereal feeling of being lifted a few inches off the ground and floating weightlessly through town as passers-by trudge with the soles of their feet slapping down on the cold, hard pavement. And you, a feather, unaffected by gravity, humbly smug in the knowledge that this power was granted to you simply by discovering a beautiful and elegant song. Corin’s latest single, Found is such a song.
You are immediately transported into her bedroom, a witness to her recording her most intimate thoughts into her voice notes app. Or at least that’s what it feels like, before the song explodes into something altogether more uplifting and hopeful. Complete with soaring melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Corin shares the ambiguity in having moved away from the comfort and safety of her mother’s home and into the exciting, intimidating city.
I’m captivated by the line:
“you realise love should be pretty”.
I can’t say more than that. It is a gift to me from the artist that I can interpret however I like and however often.
This a song that brings beauty and pain together in expertly and idiosyncratically. Delivered through a modest display of vocal, lyrical, and emotional prowess. Corin is supporting the wonderful Jonah Birkett at Leith Depot 3rd September and I am very curious to see how she translates this to a live performance.
