Glasgow Pop – punk rockers drop their first single of 2025 ‘Kill The Lights.‘
Last year, Resipite set out to release a single a month, for the last six months of 2024, and they delivered some top tracks, with a firm favourite of mine being the first in that series – Apathy. Six singles in six months is a crazy amount of work and I think it shows the band’s dedication to their music and the perfection of their craft.
As a result of the bands hard work with these releases, the band have earned a fair amount of radio play and have had ar regular plugs on the BBC introducing Scotland and BBC Introducting Rock airwaves. They start of 2025 strong, and dropping another pop-punk singalong anthem that sounds as though it belongs on Kerrang Radio.
Kill the lights has a super catchy intro with a synth hook that will live rent-free in your head (thanks Respite!) It gave me some form of 90s electric vibe. This dance-like positive chirpy synth part is a paradox for the theme of the song, as Kill The Lights explores the complexity of mental health, in particular anxiety, irational thoughts and self doubt.
“Let me overthink myself to sleep “
Their music gives me the opportunty to reminise about how I felt hearing You Me At Six for the first time – big choruses that make you want to belt it out and a drum beat that you feel in your soul which makes you want to dance.
Respite are showcasing there’s no need to reinvent the wheel to create music that grabs the listener’s attention and keeps them coming back for more. Respite might give you nostalgic sounds of your teens or twenties but with their Scottish twang, they carve out a refreshing new space for pop-punk fans both old and new alike.
You can find Respite support Crashes in Audio Glasgow in May. A killer bill of live music with Conflict Hope, and Gary’s rainbow shop also appearing. Support local music and grab your tickets here.
