Tooth GoreScum of the Sea

Vibe: Maximum catharsis

From the band: “Scum of the Sea is a celebration of my hometown Newquay, in Cornwall (one of the most impoverished counties in the UK). The title is a play on the common phrase ‘Scum of the Earth’ and this rebellious surf punk anthem is an homage to my beautiful home and the people that make it special, even if the rest of the world sometimes views us as scum”.

Emma says: Tooth Gore always embrace abrasion with confidence. Their latest offering delivers distorted guitars, aggressive rhythms and visceral vocals without sacrificing precision. It contains the best elements of modern punk and hardcore whilst retaining a distinct identity.

Laura Silverstone I’m On Fire

Vibe: Last orders

From the band: “It’s a very raw story of desire and lust – something women have historically only been allowed to express as long as it benefited the heterosexual men in the room,” she says. “We’re changing that, turning it into a queer love story, sung by a woman, and to a woman.

Emma says: Laura Silverstone keeps things simple on her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m On Fire’, letting her voice do most of the heavy lifting. The minimal arrangement gives the song an intimate feel.

When Suddenly Flowchart

Vibe: Choreographed chaos

From the band: “Flowchart is a song about conversations with friends and the shape they take, and how some conversations make you feel seen and heard, while others feel like you have to put on a mask and perform. It’s about feeling tired from that performance when it seems to come so easy to most people”.

Emma says: ‘Flowchart’ keeps you on your toes. Twisting guitar lines, shifting rhythms and unexpected turns keep it unpredictable without losing its sense of melody.

Dolium v LiVESShame!

Vibe: Loud raw emotion

From the band: Dolium x LiVES collide on “Shame!”, a high-friction joint single that blurs the line between collaboration and confrontation. Rooted in indie rock and sharpened by punk urgency, it’s a track driven by tension, energy, and shared intent.

Emma says: Shame! is a collision of punk and alt-rock. It’s noisy, fast and packed with attitude; driven by sharp riffs, commanding vocals and a relentless rhythm section.

Dark Hearts I Don’t Want To Sleepwalk to My Grave

Vibe: Redemption song

From the band: An atmospheric, tempting song that draws you into the darker side of their universe with a strong message of redemption.

Emma says: ‘I Don’t Want To Sleepwalk to My Grave’ tackles big themes, but it turns those anxieties into something strangely uplifting. It pairs huge melodies with lyrics that ask some difficult questions.

Fresh finds…

DBA! – Caught In A Poet and a Clown

Vibe: Quiet optimism

Emma says: The crunchy guitars and reflective lyrics don’t rush to make a first impression. The song builds naturally, each section settles before a satisfying finish. The result is quiet confidence, a track that evokes nostalgia without being over sentimental.

RadhikaCocoa Butter Eyes

Vibe: Honey sweet

Emma says: My current favourite pick from Radhkia’s debut album CIne-Pop is the smooth and warm ‘Cocoa Butter Eyes’. Understated in all the right ways, it’s easy to get lost in Radhika’s otherworldly vocals. Her voice sits comfortably over a soulful groove and the production knows when to step back.

Heidi Curtis Hollow Heart

Vibe: Small hours

Emma says: ‘Hollow Heart’is built around atmosphere as much as melody. Curtis delivers a lingering vocal performance, she captures loneliness without slipping too heavily into melodrama. The sparse instrumentation creates space for restraint and lyrical detail.

Francis of Delirium Damned

Vibe: Holding its nerve

Emma says: Few artists can capture emotional volatility like Francis of Delirium. ‘Damned’ thrives on tension shifting between delicate verses and explosive guitar-driven choruses. The dynamics are dramatic and purposeful, reflecting the instability the lyrics explore.

Lucky BreakHead Down

Vibe: Leaving town

Emma says: A sense of dislocation runs through ‘Head Down’. Bright, lush guitars and introspective vocals make for a vulnerable and confessional track, The lyrics reflect the sound as the narrator longs for intimacy and understanding in a society of “mass produced destruction”.
