The track revisits an old classic, one that also hails from Scotland, pared back and delivered in Radhika’s signature dreamy sound. Instead of reanimating the bright melancholy of the original, Radhika’s version offers restraint.
Radhika strips the track down to its emotional architecture and diffuses its edges with a sparse yet deliberate arrangement. Soft textures, patience in the pacing and an emphasis on her delicate vocals. Her voice is light, almost evasive as she circles the melody. The vocal harmonies from Tracyanne Campbell and Mitch Mitchell adds another layer of warmth, stabilising the track without dominating.
Radhika’s cover is a recontextualisation; the familiar lyrical tension sits somewhere between longing and detachment, less immediate than the original but more reflective. She is reconsidering the moment, not directly watching it unfold.
The single precedes Radhika’s impending debut album ‘Cine-Pop’, out on 22 May. ‘Since Yesterday’ sits alongside ‘Starry Eyes’ and ‘Feline Bandits’ as precursors to the album and an introduction to who Radhika is, a specialist in creating atmosphere.
